Stone #: Gem 0029
Material: Spinel
Type: Dark ruby red
From: Burma
Design: Denise's Round Brilliant A (Designed by Dan Starr)
Cut By: Dan Starr
Basic Shape: Round
Size: 5.9 mm wide x 3.6 mm deep
Clarity: VS2 - Several very small bubbles and black inclusions that
require a 10x loop and some experience to see.
Weight: 1.00 carats
Price: $175.00 ($175/ct)
Treatments: None Known
Note: This is a dark Ruby Red Spinel. If it were lighter the price
would be correspondingly higher. Nevertheless it is a great red
spinel. I recut it from a native cut spinel I obtained at auction. For
those who appreciate a deep red flash, this is for you. In the past
red spinels were commonly thought to be Rubies (ruby red
corundum).
I attempt to accurately represent and describe cut stones and rough
as to appearance, size, origin and fully disclose any known
treatments in its description. Because you view the images on a
different monitor with different settings, color is particularly fickle
to represent, but I do my best.

Stone #: Gem 0055
Material: Spinel
Type: Hot Pink Purple
From: Tanzania
Design: 133 Oval (Designed by Jeff Graham)
Cut By: Dan Starr
Basic Shape: Oval
Size: 5.6 mm wide x 7.4 mm long x 4.1 mm deep
Clarity: VS - One veil under a C2 facet.
Weight: 1.31 carats
Price: $11,724.50 ($8950/ct)
Treatments: None Known
Note: This is as good a spinel as you'll ever see! The color is
extremely rare and gem cutters almost never get a chance to cut
rough of this quality. Quoting Jeff Graham's words, "This material
is some of the all time best that I have ever managed to get rough.
As most people are aware red/purple Spinels, especially in larger
sizes are almost impossible to get rough and are actually quite
difficult to even buy already cut. Anything cut over a carat is
considered premium. "
